My EVE Space
March 16, 2010
It seems that posting one’s “EVE Space” is all the rage on the EVE Online blogosphere, so here’s mine after the cut. This is where I play EVE ! Either at this laptop on the coffee table or on the iPhone running Mocha VNC while out and about. Perfect for updating market orders, which right now, is all I get up to in EVE!
Pretty soon I plan on replacing this box with another gaming laptop or a PC with a Samsung Lapfit monitor, which looks ideal for coffee table gaming. Pair it with a wireless mouse and keyboard and I think one could build quite a nice PC that could also be tidied away! How convenient!

EVE Online
I have always wanted to try Eve but it seems SOOOOOO daunting. I had a trial and loaded it up for a while and having come from fairly flat and simplistic MMO’s like WOW… It just overwhelmed me.
Ironically I ADORE complicated games (Hell, I’ve played Dwarf Fortress which is pretty much a complicated game badge of honor), but for some reason Eve just made my brain freeze.
Love the idea of using VNC to do stuff. Was debating trying playing WOW over VNC on my iPod. Auction house shenanigans should be doable at the very least.
Auction house/Market is about all you can do by VNC but it is workable, which is nice.
As for EVE, I almost wonder if it is worthy of a bit of a newby intro guide -at least trough the first few hours – with some pointers on how to plug in to the rest of the game. Thoughts?
I sort of feel like learning EVE is like… I don’t know… Learning to drive a car. Early on you grind the gears and scare passers by and it isn’t much fun, but once you get it, it’s great and there’s lots you can do.
I think my big fear is everything I’ve read it sounds like there’s people just waiting to kill me immediately.
The other concern is how much it forces you to work with other people. What I love about WOW is the fact that I can run around on my own and bash stuff in the head and enjoy 90-95% of the game without having to deal with anyone else.
Can you solo a lot of Eve? I assume it’s the usual mission/reward structure like… Well every other MMO out there.
You can solo a hell of a lot in EVE, but teams do make some tasks easier. The trick is to be willing to accept that you can’t do everything, or to be prepared to join a huge corporation that you can involve yourself with as much as you fancy but doesn’t mind you doing your own thing now and then.
You’re making this sound very appealing, damn you:) LOL!
So I’m guessing you can buy and sell and make a handy profit in Eve? Do addons exist? (Like for WOW you’ve got auction scanners to keep databases of prices etc…)
Will check Steam, see if I can get a trial again once I’m done burning my ten day free Lich King trial for 10 days of WOW.
I can probably provide some trial thing which will get you more time than the other trials. Mail Peter (at) tiny pirate dot com and I will see if I can hook you up. And there are many useful apps for EVE but no UI ones, it is pretty flexible and functional already.
Oops. Posted that in the wrong spot. Sorry.
