Superb Command Ops: Battles from the Bulge AAR

December 25, 2012 1 comment

A friend over on BrokenForum has been writing a superb Command Ops AAR where day by day he recounts the battle for Bastogne on the same days in December that those historic events occurred all those years ago. The result is a superb retelling of history along with the interesting perspective of someone playing through the battle in the excellent Command Ops: Battles from the Bulge game engine. Go have a read, Fishbreath has done an excellent job!

Deccan from QuarterToThree has started a Hearts of Iron 3 AAR playing as Nationalist China. This looks like it’s shaping up to be a really interesting game and I encourage you to head over and have a read!

BFTB AAR: Elsenborn Ridge

Nikolaj has started a Battles from the Bulge AAR with the Elseborn Ridge scenario. It’s a great read and well illustrated and if you’re interested in BFTB I recommend having a read. Nikolaj does a great job of explaining what he’s doing, why, and where it’s going right (or wrong!).  I just wish the damn game wasn’t so expensive!

With war over it’s time to look at the world and review our position before deciding “what next?” One of the first tasks is to reorganize the military, which was heavily battered about during the war. After adjusting we end up with three armored corps and about eight infantry corps (in addition to our police and colonial forces). We’ve lost a number of divisions, but overall, I think we’re in good shape.

But hang on, what are the Soviets up to?…. Read more…

War in Italy is dragging on. By October things have slowed substantially in the North and in the South it is taking time to clear the cities of Rome, Salerno and Taranto. We’re also suffering at the hands of the Italian fleet, which I’m having a hard time pinning down (and would probably lose to if I did!). Lets see what happens next! Read more…

In January, 1949, something happens! The Allies try for OVERLORD again and the Soviets are clawing back territory in the East. Perhaps it is time for Spain to make its move and to make this conflict turn decisively in the favour of the good guys! Read more…

As 1944 dawns Spain finds itself more powerful than it has been in a very long time. Yet Portugal still bothers us. The troops in Africa got stuck in British territory – too out of supply to cross into Portugal’s East African holdings (perhaps being in the Allies would help this?), we’ve got the Azores to perhaps take, and surrender to force on the stubborn Portuguese!
